Architectural asphalt shingles typically last 25-30 years. Impact-resistant shingles run 30-40 years. Cedar shake is usually 20-30 years with maintenance. Metal can go 50 years or more. Coastal weather and nor'easters shorten those numbers, which is why the underlayment and ice and water shield matter as much as the shingle you pick.

May through October is easiest, with milder temperatures and less rain. We install year-round, though. If your roof is actively leaking, the season is not really the question, because water getting into the structure causes more damage the longer it sits. We tarp and protect the home until the full installation is finished.

Rebuilding the drywall, flooring and finishes afterwards depends on the scope, but 1-3 weeks is typical.

We document the damage thoroughly, photograph everything before we remove it, write up the scope of work, and provide estimates and invoices that you or your adjuster can use. What we do not do is negotiate your claim, tell you what your policy covers, or promise you an outcome. In New York, only a licensed public adjuster may negotiate a claim on a homeowner's behalf. We stay on our side of that line, and we would be wary of any contractor who does not.

Yes. In the right conditions mold can start within 24 to 48 hours, and the humidity here does not help. That is why the drying stage matters as much as the extraction. We dry the structure properly with commercial equipment and take readings until it is genuinely dry, rather than until it looks dry.

A musty or earthy smell, staining or discolouration on walls and ceilings, paint bubbling or peeling, floors that have warped or cupped, soft spots in drywall, or a water bill that went up without explanation. Any of those are worth having someone look at with a moisture meter.

Yes. Sewage is category 3 water, the most contaminated classification there is, and it is not a mopping job. Anything porous that it touched has to come out: drywall, insulation, carpet and pad. Hard surfaces and structure can be cleaned, disinfected and dried. Our crews work in full protective equipment. We will show you what we found before we remove anything.

Both, and that is the point of using one company. Demo, drying, then framing, drywall, tape, paint, flooring and lighting. The same people who took the room apart put it back together, so nothing gets lost in a handover between two contractors.

Do not try to clean soot yourself, because cleaning it wrong sets the staining permanently.

Smoke gets into walls, ceilings, ductwork and contents, so surface cleaning alone does not fix the smell. The process is HEPA vacuuming the soot, chemical sponge cleaning surfaces, thermal fogging, and ozone or hydroxyl treatment for the odour itself. HVAC components get cleaned or replaced so the smell is not simply recirculated back through the house.

Board-up and securing the structure happens the same day. Soot cleaning, odour treatment and packing out contents is usually 1-2 weeks. Full reconstruction runs anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks depending on how much of the house was affected. You get a timeline at the start and we tell you when it changes.
